How does my website work? To have a website you must have:
Domain Name
Your domain name is like your residence. It is your address on the Internet.
Hosting space
When you ask for "hosting" you are requesting an actual space on a web server where your web site files can be stored. Essentially the web server is nothing more than a computer that stores or "hosts" your web site.
Web Site Files
Files such as index.html, default.asp, index.php, etc. are considered "home" pages, which cache on the Internet. When you type in "mydomain.com" in your browser, you will get your home page. Similar to walking into your own home and looking around, you are walking into your hosting space, and viewing the contents of that space.
